Library/Media Center General Information
All LCC Day School elementary and middle school students have access to our collection of over 10,000 books. Students in Pre-K 4 through 2nd grade come to the library weekly for a fun, engaging read-aloud story. All elementary classes, K-4, check out a book during weekly library visits. In addition to the main library, middle school students (grades 5-8) have daily access to satellite libraries in their Language Arts classrooms. We strive to nurture a community of readers who are excited about reading and exploring the wide world of literature.
Library/Media Center Hours:
Monday - Friday 8:10 am- 3:30 pm
The library is closed during school breaks and holidays.
Birthdays & Books
Birthdays & Books - Birthday Bash Week
The Birthdays and Books program has allowed our libraries to significantly increase the number of exciting new books in our collection! Students look forward to this every year and often check out their birthday books over and over again! There is still time to sign your student up for this fun LCCDS tradition!
How it works:
During Birthday Bash Week, students choose a book from the Birthdays & Books Collection in the Media Center. This collection is loaded with a fabulous selection of brand new hardcover books. The student’s name is printed on a special donor plate inside the front cover of the book and it is added to the library collections. Throughout the week we celebrate all of the year's birthdays with a special birthday snack and a presentation of the book donors at the morning flag ceremony. In addition, each participating student gets to be the first to check out his/her newly donated birthday book!
Birthday Bash participation forms are a part of your annual LCC Day School registration packet. However, if you did not sign up and wish to participate, please contact Mrs. Giroud at email@example.com or Mrs. Loughrey, Director of Finance at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sunshine State Young Reader Awards (SSYRA)
SSYRA and Celebration of the Books
SSYRA 3rd and 4th Grade
Each year, our 3rd and 4th-grade students participate in a Celebration of the Books. This program highlights the Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books, chosen yearly by the Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME). Students who read at least three or more Sunshine State Books vote on their favorite book from the list. There are extra prizes including Kona Ice for students who read 8-12 books and those who read 13-15 books get a free book at the Spring Book Fair! Be a part of the fun and pick up one of the SSYRA books today!
Congratulations to all of the students who read SSYRA books this year. We are so proud of you all- keep reading!
Mystery Readers : Pre-K 4, 4-5Ts and Kindergarten
What is a Mystery Reader?
The LCCDS library invites parents, older siblings, grandparents, and special friends of students in the Pre-K 4's, 4-5Ts and Kindergarten to surprise your child by being a “Mystery Reader” during their weekly library visit. Students LOVE having their family and friends visit the library to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to the class.
*Prior to your visit, you will be asked to email Mrs. Giroud three to five clues that might help students guess your identity. Clues will be shared with the students before the reader is called into the library for story time.
*Readers are asked to bring a book to read or read a librarian-chosen book from the school collection.
How to sign up:
Mrs. Giroud sends out a Sign-up Genius link to all of the parents at the beginning of the year. If you can find a date that works for you, please sign up to be a Mystery Reader for your child’s library time. There are many dates to choose from throughout the year!
